To help protect you from losing spreadsheet changes due to a power outage or software bug, Microsoft Excel 2003 automatically saves a copy of open spreadsheets every 10 minutes if you forget to save the spreadsheets yourself. This way, if the system or software crashes and is restarted, the unsaved documents are automatically reopened, lessening the chance of lost data.
AutoRecover files are normally saved in the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\[USER_NAME]\
If you would rather these files be placed in a different directory or on a different drive or drive partition, do the following from within Excel 2003:
1. Click "Tools" - "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Save" tab.
3. Next to "AutoRecover save location" enter the path where you want the files to be saved. Be sure to enter a correct path, as there is no "Browse" button.
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
